What is Civil Engineering?
Civil Engineering is a Professional Engineering discipline that deals with the Design, Construction, and Maintenance of the physical and naturally built environment, including works like Roads, Bridges, Canals, Dams, and Buildings. Civil Engineering is the oldest Engineering discipline after Military Engineering, and it was defined to distinguish Non-Military Engineering from Military Engineering. It is traditionally broken into several sub-disciplines including Environmental Engineering, Geotechnical Engineering, Geophysics, Geodesy, Control Engineering, Structural Engineering, Biomechanics, Nanotechnology, Transportation Engineering, Earth Science, Atmospheric Sciences, Forensic Engineering, Municipal or Urban Engineering, Water Resources Engineering, Materials Engineering, Coastal Engineering, Surveying, and Construction Engineering. Civil Engineering takes place on all levels: in the public sector from municipal through to national governments, and in the private sector from individual homeowners through to international companies.
Who is Civil Engineer?
A Civil Engineer is a person who practices Civil Engineering; the application of planning, designing, constructing, maintaining, and operating infrastructures while protecting the public and environmental health, as well as improving existing infrastructures that have been neglected.
Originally, a Civil Engineer worked on public works projects and in some places, a Civil Engineer may perform land surveying; in others, surveying is limited to construction surveying, unless an additional qualification is obtained.
About Civil Engineering Department in SRCE:
The Civil Engineering Department is the art of study of construction of buildings and other structures. The Department of Civil Engineering was established in the year 2002 in our College. The Department has a team of well experienced and highly qualified, dedicated and motivated faculties in various specializations such as Structural Engineering, Remote Sensing, Environmental Engineering, Construction Management, etc. The department offers a 4 year B.E (Civil Engineering) with an intake of 120 and 2 year M.E (Structural Engineering) Course with an intake of 18. While having very good infrastructure facilities, the department is involved in Research and Developmental activities in Structural Engineering in the field of Steel Structures and Concrete Structures and also in Environmental Engineering.
Our vision is to produce the most competent Engineers, Scientists, Entrepreneurs, Managers and Researchers through quality education.
